The local cricket club in Great Ayton wanted to bring in a professional coach to improve some of their junior players who had been identified as having the potential to progress further as an additional resource with higher qualifications to supplement their current coaches.
This obviously costs money for a club with many overheads, so they were very grateful that the members of Ayton Lodge of Freemasons were able to assist towards the costs with a donation of £500.
The club brought in Muhammad Zahid, a Level 2 coach who has played for Durham and Pakistan. His presence means the club can have smaller groups working on honing their skills and the children look up to him. There has also been a significant increase in children (both boys and girls) regularly attending training sessions.
