Provincial Orator

Lectures and Talks

The original Orations Scheme was instigated around 2008 with a number of Orations being delivered across this and other Provinces by the Provincial Grand Orator.

The aim of the Orations was to educate on various aspects of the Craft and to provide Masonic knowledge at lodge meetings, perhaps as the mainstay of the evening, but more appropriately as a short session or interlude in proceedings tying in with the work of the lodge meeting on the evening of delivery. After the Oration was delivered the attendees were able to discuss their content through the Orator to give brethren an opportunity to reflect on what they had learnt.

Over time, these Orations proved to be somewhat academic in their composition and thus difficult to put across in a meaningful way to our brethren; as a result, the demand for their delivery fell into decline and the role of Grand Orator is no longer an office within Grand Lodge albeit we retain a Provincial Grand Orator within this Province whose role is to:

  • Restyle the Orator’s Presentations process across the Province;
  • Deliver talks and Presentations to non-Masonic bodies to further the understanding of Freemasonry and its values;
  • Provide a means to inform, develop and advance Masonic knowledge to lodges;
  • To expand the role of the Provincial Grand Orator and Area Orators by providing additional lectures and talks in support of Provincial objectives.

A range of talks on many Masonic subjects are available for delivery by the Orator’s Team to provide knowledge of Freemasonry to lodges. These talks have been selected from the vast number within Hiram and Solomon and are therefore directly linked to the educational objectives of Grand Lodge.

Our Provincial Grand Lodge has compiled a comprehensive online repository of nuggets, talks, ceremony explanations and presentations which are all stored in a new Provincial learning and development cloud called ‘Hiram’.

To gain to access the material, just ask your Lodge Mentor and he will be able to provide you with an index of available information. He can even ask for a team from the Educational Group to present for you; or you can book it direct by filling in the contact form below. Hiram complements Grand Lodge’s online learning platform, Solomon.

All brethren are encouraged to sign in to Solomon at solomon.ugle.org.uk to gain access to a huge collection of learning material to foster your curiosity whilst developing your understanding.
