Dove House Hospice has been caring for people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire for almost 40 years. Patients and families are at the heart of everything they do, whether they are caring for people at the end of their lives, providing therapies to help people with life limiting illnesses improve their quality of life, or giving much needed bereavement support to grieving families.
For these reasons, and the Worshipful Master’s family’s positive experience of his uncle, Dave Billaney’s final days, Dove House Hospice was agreed by the Lodge to be a major benefactor of the Lodge of St Andrew’s centenary year fundraising activities.
In presenting the cheque for £10,000, W.Bro. Billaney explained that Uncle Dave was a truly special person who meant everything to his family. He had a way of bringing people together, making us laugh, and always being there for us when we needed help. I hope, therefore, that this donation will allow the provision of care to those people who also need help, as Dove House Hospice offers incredible care, dignity and compassion to patients and their families.
He then thanked all the Brethren of the Lodge of St Andrew for their fantastic effort and hard work in fundraising during the Lodge’s centenary year, which allowed presentations like this to be made possible.
Starting in April 2025, the Lodge’s centenary anniversary, the Brethren organised a series of fundraising and social events over the ensuing twelve months. These included the ‘100 miles for 100 years’ run, the Centenary Ball, a Lodge of Instruction outing, community raffles and a 70/80’s disco night.
As well as donating the centenary funds to Dove House Hospice, the Lodge has given donations to Festival ’29, Hull4Heroes and several children and community charities in the Hull area.
